My Yoga Story
It's short and sweetMy yoga story started about 20 years ago when I entered my first yoga class full of curiosity and ignorance.
I discovered that the physical practice made me feel amazing – blissful – and I kept going back. I also learned a lot through the philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga, so intellectually, it kept me stimulated and interested. After many years of doing aerobic exercise, weight lifting, walking, calisthenics, etc., I decided that yoga was going to be my main form of body movement. It’s what felt the best to me and I’ve never taken a break from it in all this time. After 1.5 years of being a student, I decided to enter into teacher training because I just had to share this amazing mind/body practice with others.
Since I graduated in 2003 with my 200 hour certificate, I’ve taught thousands of hours of yoga and have guided as many people throughout the years. I teach at a local yoga studio where I’ve been for about 10 years. I’ve been teaching at the Westin Kierland resort going on 14 years and I formely taught at my church for about five years. Teaching has brought me tremendous joy and satisfaction. It’s a very rewarding career; but because it’s hard to make a full-time living teaching yoga, I created another business for myself. That’s why I have developed a thriving essential oil business. But back to yoga…
Yoga is a practical science
The main goal of yoga is to direct and focus mental activity. That’s easier said than done; however, it’s precisely this benefit that keeps people coming back. Through postures, breath control, meditation and contemplation, we begin to transform into someone we really like. Then we’re hooked. It’s all about becoming whole…connecting our mind to our body and learning to treat it lovingly and with reverence. It really is the temple of the soul. So much of what’s in our heads affects our bodies. I know it’s not for everyone, but I can’t live without my yoga practice.
I teach classes that focus on a combination of cultivating positive heart qualities and structural alignment. I teach basics/beginners/level1, flow, restorative, yoga nidra, intermediate and special workshops/events. Click Teaching Schedule to see where you can find me.
